Fast Food © Codemasters 1989 The CPC Zone Review Another Dizzy game hits the market and yet again Codemasters decided to pull away from the usual adventure games and create this addictive pacman style arcade game for home computers only. It looks as if Dizzy just can't stop eating food and after being chased away by the chef for eating all of his stock he soon finds that not even the food is going to sit still for him to eat it. Ketchup bottles, burgers and fizzy drinks are running around gigantic mazes in order to avoid Dizzy - you're job is to chase after them and eat them all before somebody else does. This is very similar to Pacman with slight differences, these are; Dizzy is the main character (not Pacman), ghosts have been removed and replaced with items of food, power-ups come in the form of yes you guessed it more food and animated screens have been added every 5 levels - how does it fair? read on. Codemasters is plainly guilty of being lazy with this title, and to use our favourite adventure character as the good guy simply isn't fair. The whole concept is obviously based around the Pacman arcade and couldn't have taken as long to develop as any of the adventure games, this was probably just a stunt to get more money out of the punters by sticking a new character on an old title. The graphics are well drawn though Dizzy has yet again changed colour but I'm not so certain that this is a choice thing but more to do with the fact that if Dizzy was white you may not be able to see him as well on the screen and would get confused. Levels are well designed with different colours used in each one, the screen has been given an arcade look (around the edges) and the animated screens between levels are very funny indeed - especially when you get an extra life . Sound is once again resored to the standard we should all be used to with the Codemasters classics as they have added actual sound to the game instead of just dubbing it with a title theme - as you should know some of the Dizzy adventures lost points because of this. In Fast Food however you do get to hear the occasional sound and power-up noises during gameplay which obviously removes the flat sound some of the better Dizzy games have been left with. Gameplay is obviously not as high as the original arcade game but it's still a very addictive and easy to play sort of game. The first 4-5 levels are very easy indeed because there is nothing that can kill you, but be warned because things do change and it will get a lot harder.
